IGCSE Department held its third annual speech competitions dubbed as VOICES 2017 for Grade 9 and 10 students. It was held last Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 8:OO AM to 12:00NN at Aradous Hall.
VOICES 2017 with its theme “Resonate the Voices Within” had introduced major changes. For the first time, Grade 10 students competed for Reader’s Theater while Grade 9 did the Oratorical Speech. The audience also witnessed a superb speech choir performance from selected students of grade 9 and 10 under the tutelage of Miss Lhiza Arnigo. Meanwhile, Miss Audrie Ashiali took over the training of the oratorical speakers from grade 9, while, Mr. Lloyd Guerina prepared and collaborated with all the contestants and participants of the Readers’ theater from grade 10.
In the oratorical speech contest, nine speakers from Grade 9 competed. In the end, Hadi Abdulla Mahdi Abdulla of 9E emerged as the champion while Ahmed Abdurasool Mansoor Shaban of 9C and Ayah Hamed Moh’d Jaffar Khalaf of 9B bagged the second and third place respectively. Expert judges from the field were invited to select this year’s winners.
For the reader’s theater tilt, three competing groups composed of ten members from 10C, 10D and combination of 10A and 10B vied for the Championship. All the groups had given their best and proved their worth as speakers. In the end, 10C got the chance to be named as the first Champion of the Readers’ theater. The winning team from 10C was composed of Hussain Basem, Yusuf Ahmed, Ali Jassim, Mohamed Sadeq, Mohammed Makki, Ali Khalil, Ali Hamed, Jassim Mohhamed, Bader Raed Hasan, and Maitham Jaffer.
Overall, the said event ended with a huge success. It was made possible due to the guidance and support of the IGCSE coordinator, Miss Yhen Caluyo, who did a very impressive work as the over-all administrator of the VOICES 2017 as she maximized the talents and skills of her teachers in putting up the speech tilts. It was also graced and supported by the administrators headed by the high school principal, Ms Ebtisam Al-Zeera and the grade school principal, Ms. Iqbal Nawaf with the supportive vice principal Ms. Shahla .
