VOICES 2018 : 
“Sharpening Language Skills for Global Citizenship”

 With the aim of providing opportunities for APG learners to become good citizens with global awareness and competence through public speaking activities, the English Department spearheaded the VOICES from 18th to 28th of March, 8:00-10:30 at Aradous Hall, wherein students from Grades 1 to 8 showcased their talents in the different contests and presentations under the theme, “Sharpening Language Skills for Global Citizenship”.

From spreading the words through speaking to carrying out awareness to everyone, APG learners had made their audience moved and inspired. Their performances not only left the audience mesmerized with their powerful voices, but helped to educate everyone on: being respectful, being valuable, and being positive.
Being done annually, VOICES has a distinct competition each grade level. This academic year, the activities were as follows: Grade 1- Prepared Speech “When I Grow Up”, Grade 2- Show and Tell, Grade 3- Story Telling, Grade 4- Poetry Recitation, Grade 5- Dramatic Monologue, Grade 6- ( Social Studies & English )Spin and Win, Grade 7 and 8- Prepared Speech.
Among the many contestants who all performed remarkably this year, the following bagged the top 3 places: Grade 1- 1st- Sara Hasan A. Alyaqoob (1G), 2nd -Fatima Mohamed Ghazwan (1F), 3rd - Zainab Ali Abdulla Hasan (1B); Grade 2- 1st -Zainab Ali Alakri (2B), 2nd -Fatima Ebrahim Hasan (2G), 3rd -Sara Hussain Almail (2C); Grade 3- 1st- Sondos Mohamed Marzooq (3D), 2nd –Mariam Mohamed Alfardan (3D), 3rd –Noor Hussain Abdulla (3A); Grade 4- 1st -Samaa Ahmed Abdulaziz- (4B), 2nd -Hawraa Saleh Helal- (4B), 3rd -Alyaa Ahmed Abdulemam (4C); Grade 5- 1st - Fatima Abdulaziz Naser (5B), 2nd -Dana Hassan Ebrahim (5A); 3rd - Aryam Ebrahim Abbas (5B); Grade 6- 1st- 6D, 2nd- 6F, 3rd- 6B; Grade 7- 1st- Ebrahim Tawfeeq Abdulla (7D); 2nd - Sayed Ali Jaafar Haider (7D); 3rd - Ali Hadi Ali Haji (7E); Grade 8- 1st - Sama Mohammed Ashoor (8A), 2nd - Maysoon Jasim Bukannan (8B), 3rd - Zainab Hussain Isa (8C). These winners typically displayed excellent diction, use of emotion and fantastic gestures, all helped hammer home the meaning of their words.
The yearly event was indeed successful and rewarding because of the hard work and dedication of the versatile English teachers and unfailing support and guidance of the Acting Department Head- Ms. Ida Mae Orbe, Vice-Principal- Ms. Shahla Anbreen, Elementary Principal- Ms. Azhar Tarada, and Middle and High School Principal- Ms. Ebtisam Alzeera.
