Gifted and Talented Education

At APG, we do not only cater for students with special learning needs, but we also provide unique opportunities and differentiated learning for our gifted and talented students. Gifted students are those who have a capacity for excellence which is far beyond that of their peers in various domains such as intellectual, creativity, artistic, leadership and/or academic.

We believe that each student is different and unique in a certain way! Thus, creating a school environment that fosters success and realizes each student's potential is crucial for students to become independent learners and decision makers.

  • To identify students with special abilities, whether they were high achievers or underachievers, at early age, and provide them with continuous support to pursue their individual interests.
  • To create enthusiastic classrooms that encourage all students to raise their own expectations of their personal performance.
  • To promote the social-emotional development of gifted students and develop their self-esteem.

Process of identification:

Gifted and talented students are identified through a comprehensive process by firstly looking for nominations of parents, teachers, and peers. A standardized ability test will be used starting from September 2015 to measure students’ overall intellectual abilities.

Programs and provisions:

  • We are keen to involve students in competitions (local and international), and to attend workshops and forums that develop their talent area.
  • Through afterschool clubs we also cater for those showing potential in certain areas.
  • Students with academic talents are acknowledged by having special logos on their uniforms.
  • We provide a venue for the talented to showcase their talents on stage.
  • We nominate students to join Bahrain Center for the Gifted.

APG will continue to foster the needs of the gifted and talented. It will provide opportunities of achievement and excellence to our dear gifted and talented students.

Special Education Department (SPED)

The Special Education Program (SPED) is established to ensure that students with disabilities are provided with an atmosphere that allows them to gain quality education. The SPED addresses the essentials of special children undergoing difficulties in integrating in a mainstream classroom. The special programs allow and inspire children to be successful notwithstanding their limitations or difficulties. They are empowered and the foundation for their triumph is laid out in a personality development program. All these efforts are geared to help the child perform well, achieve more, and become a better individual with confidence and self-esteem. The programs approach focuses on both psychological and neurological aspect of behavioral challenges being experience by the students. Approaches include psychological testing, personal counseling, one on one class for remediation and referrals to developmental pediatricians, psychiatrist and practitioners for therapy medication.
