APG Toastmasters Club

SOARING UP with APG Toastmasters

Inspired by its motto Soar Towards Success, APG Toastmasters Club, an all women club came into existence in the year 2006 with the aim of furthering the leadership skills and communicative competence of its members who are exclusively the mentors of APG School. ACB Revathy Ratnasekar was then its first president, the club mentor together with CTM Mohamed Saleem and with DTM Jawad Hayat, the club sponsor. Alba and Tasca Toastmasters are the sponsoring clubs.

From its first official meeting on 30th November 2006, the club showed strong promise as TM Maria Visitacion Serue already bagged the 2nd place in the Humorous Speech Contest (Area level).

On 3rd January 2007, APG Toastmasters Club was finally chartered by no less than the Toastmasters International President himself, DTM Johnny Uy, who was then in Bahrain. On that same year, TM Ma. Visitacion Serue was the Area 47 secretary.

Two years after, APG Toastmasters Club soared high in the Area 47 Contest as the triumvirate of TM Evita de Vera and two other pioneering members bagged the first place in the International, Evaluation, and Humorous Speech Contest. TM Ebtisam Al-Zeera also won 2nd Place in the Evaluation. In that year’s BTAC (Bahrain Toastmasters Annual Conference) the club was unstoppable as it shone the brightest when one of the pioneering members was proclaimed Division K’s (Bahrain) official representative on International Speech category to the DTAC (District 79 Toastmasters Conference) which comprises the GCC countries. Moreover, TM Evita emerged as the 3rd Placer in the Humorous Speech.

2008-2009 was a back-to-back performance of TM Maria Visitacion Serue then the president of the club who became the Division K secretary with TM Amor Dela Cruz then, the Vice-President for Membership who was also the secretary in the Area 47 Council.

Adding feather to its cap, was another member who won the 2nd place in the Area 47 Contest on Evaluation and Table Topics while TM Eman Jalal landed in the 3rd Place for the International Speech category.

Again, this year APG Toastmasters Club stood out during the Area 47 Contest when the three representatives: TM Rashida Suleman, CC Evita de Vera and CC Eman Jalal were the 2nd Placers in the Evaluation, Table Topics and International Speech Contest respectively.

From a baby club, APG Toastmasters progressed to its maturity being a mother club, together with Alba, to GPIC Toastmasters with TM Ebtisam Al-Zeera as one of the two mentors. Morever, APG Toastmasters Club mothered the YLP (Youth Leadership Program) course for students from outside and inside APG School with TM Mariesette Orandanza and TM Leonor Ramirez as the mentors. Truly, APG Toastmasters Club continues its quest towards greater heights as it is a recipient of the Beat the Clock Award while it enjoys the title Select Distinguished Club.
