Preschool Program
At A.P.G.School,pre-school is divided into three stages -Nursery, Junior Kindergarten (KG1) and Senior Kindergarten.Typically the Nusery consists of children of the age group from.3 to 4 years Jr. KG class comprises children from four to five years of age, and the Sr. KG class comprises children from five to six years of age
The classrooms actively engage children so they gain the skills and knowledge they need to enter primary school ready to achieve and excel at learning. A.P.G.Preschool classrooms focus on the cognitive, language, physical, social, and emotional development of each child.
A wide variety of materials for experimenting and learning are also provided by the teacher: These materials are the child’s tools and his text books. Playground apparatus for large muscle development: climbing, swinging, riding, balancing. Sand pile, wheel toys, large hollow blocks for building. Boats, trucks and trains to use with block structures in imaginative play. Poster paints and clay, picture books, drums and other simple musical instruments.
Building habits and attitudes in children which will go far towards ensuring their favorable adjustment to later life in school and in the outside world. Learning to eat the right foods and enjoy them. Accepting rest and sleep as a regular procedure. Forming satisfactory toilet habits. Accepting examination from nurse or physician without fear. Showing an eager interest in the world about him, free from unnecessary fears and inhibitions. Fitting into his social group: sharing, waiting his turn, accepting disappointment, conforming to reasonable adult demands, making decisions and solving problems on his own level, and accepting the consequences of his actions. Feeling adequate and secure at home and at school.
The Preschool Curriculum Framework is organized by using four domains of development:
• personal and social development
• physical development
• cognitive development
• creative expression/aesthetic development
Program Goals
By the end of preschool, children will:
• demonstrate a sense of self as a learner;
• demonstrate a sense of responsibility to oneself and others; and
• demonstrate effective functioning, individually and as a member.
Content Standards
Preschool programs provide children with opportunities to exhibit curiosity, creativity,self-direction and persistence in learning situations;
• describe themselves using several basic characteristics;
• demonstrate awareness of one’s own and others’ feelings;
• participate in and exhibit self-control in group situations;
• interact appropriately with peers and familiar adults;
• use age-appropriate conflict-resolution strategies; and
• recognize similarities and appreciate differences in people.
After finishing Senior kindergarten, a child enters Grade 1 of primary school.
