APG SCHOOL CELEBRATES MATH AND SCIENCE FAIR 2010
APG School once again proved to be the talk of the town and in the limelight after the inauguration of its most unique, creative and innovative Math and Science Fair exhibition 2009 -2010,on 26 April , a much awaited annual event by all especially the parents .
Science and Mathematics have always been part of our lives. We may not realize the essence of it, but in whatever we do, there is always a reason to celebrate. For without these subjects, the world will be dull and boring. Besides, we will not be able to enjoy the many applications and innovations these subjects have brought for the world to utilize.
In pursuit of one of Arabian Pearl Gulf School’s mission statement, that is: providing quality opportunities for intellectual and functional academic excellence, the APG School once again spearheaded a successful celebration of its annual Science Fair. This time around, it has been more highlighted due to the fusion of Mathematics under the leadership of Ms. Ruyena Caluyo, the head of the Mathematics Department in coordination with her partner Ms. Neeta Verghese being the head of the Science Department.
It was started with the short opening ceremony presented by the students ,at the Gulf Pearl Hall witnessed by some distinguished guests and parents . Right after, the cutting of ribbon was done by Dr.Fadel Al Basri , to formally launch the much awaited fair which was headed by the esteemed efforts of Mr. Mohammed Moosa Al Aali, the chairman of the school’s executive board, Ms. Ebtisam Al Zeera the school Principal; Ms. Rashida Suleman, the Vice-Principal, coordinators, teachers, students, guests and parents as well.
They have been the living witnesses to the beauty of the presentations. With this year’s theme: “Mathematics and Science in Everyday Life”, everybody was so surprised witnessing the ingenuities and craftsmanship of APG students in appreciating Mathematics and Science in their day to day living. The exhibition having been inaugurated today by our chief guest Dr.FadelAl Basri ,a professor from the Department of Electrical and Electronics ,University of Bahrain, is now open for the public ,parents and students from all schools in Bahrain, from April 26-April 29, 2010 from 8:00-1:00. Showcasing the skills, talents and potentials of the students in their presentations was the most coveted part. The exhibition was conceptualized based on the submitted projects done by the students in Grades 1 to 11. Best projects were chosen and judged ready for being exhibited. Different issues on global warming, energy conservation, recycling, and the efforts made by the IB group on experimental sciences were just some of the festive appearances. On top of those science spectrums, the mathematics department showcased applications of Mathematics in everyday life. From facts to figures, charts, puzzles, board games to interactive manipulative projects, the presentation of the Math department blossomed because of the Math garden that they have presented.
It was a true challenge for most students in preparing these developing their scientific and mathematical skills too. Had there been sleepless nights and burning of midnight oils during the process? Well, at the end, it was their passion, dedication, commitment to work, with the guidance of their teachers and parents that made this event so successful . Special thanks to the support of the administration for believing and tapping the potentials of these young minds to the fullest.
Truly, it was a sight to behold for a wonderful exhibition that has been.
